Feeling…Inflamed

A fire rages through the
country.  Anger flares.
Passion ignites.
Polarized, on the brink of
repeating history.

Will we break?

Will we unite?

Each day, one side or the
other, or the media
who has bias both ways,
fan the flames of dissent.

Our next revolution will be a civil war.

Pull the pin on the extinguisher.

Cacophony

The largest population has the
smallest voice.
Cries for help
drowned out,
buried,
layered under
non-stop
pervasive
Media.

Everyone has an
opinion.  Here is
Media’s opinion:
The only one
correct is the one
speaking loudest.

Be!  Do!
Listen!  No!
Yes!  Right!
Stop!  Wrong!

I cover my ears.
Cacophony leads to
destruction.
We are puppets,
Media the puppeteer.

Any Color’s All Right As Long As It’s Red (for Basil)

Grandpa in his navy blue
three-piece
suit and claret
tie taught us his made up
word
Transmugliforcandanbumshamity

In leather slippers and ruby
robe, he entertained
grandchildren with tales sung in a
baritone about whales
making love on their
knees.  Seated on the tall shag
carpet at his
feet, we giggled because
whales have
tails and we were too
young to understand
sex

But we knew about
stories and Lawrence
Welk and the
bubble machine and
Love and any color’s all right
as long as it’s
red
